What the training changed
Some of these candidates trained as Retail Sales Associates under Deendayal Upadhyay Gramin Kaushal Yojana and were placed in retail work at Dehradun. Others took mushroom cultivation, soft toys making and desktop publishing training under the Aajeevika Integrated Livelihood Support Project run with UGVS, and work on their own account in their villages. Each account below is taken from the record kept by the foundation for that candidate.
Abhisek
Completed the Retail Sales Associate course at the Pauri Garhwal centre under DDU-GKY and works as a Customer Sales Associate at Big Bazaar, Dehradun.
Nisha
Her village lies in the core area of Rajaji National Park and has no connecting path. She trained as a Retail Sales Associate under DDU-GKY and now works at Big Bazaar, Dehradun.
Reshma
From a BPL household that lived on seasonal farming, she finished the Retail Sales Associate course under DDU-GKY and joined Big Bazaar, Dehradun.
Suraj
Trained as a Retail Sales Associate under DDU-GKY at the Pauri Garhwal centre and is now a Customer Sales Associate at Big Bazaar, Dehradun.
Usha
She completed the Retail Sales Associate course under DDU-GKY and now supports herself from her work at Big Bazaar, Dehradun.
Anirudha Majlyari
Took mushroom cultivation training at the DIF centre under the UGVS and ILSP project and now grows mushrooms in quantity in his own town.
Kavita Negi
She had studied only up to class five. After the UGVS mushroom cultivation training she grows and sells mushrooms for her livelihood.
Manisha Painuly
She walked 30 km each day to attend the DTP training at the DIF centre and now teaches computers at Swami Vivekanand Academy.

She joined the Soft Toys Making programme under UGVS and now makes and sells soft toys from her house.

She left school after class five and walked to the centre for the mushroom cultivation training. She now cultivates and sells mushrooms for her livelihood.
