Manisha Painuly is 25 years old and belongs to Bhandargoan in Chamba block of Tehri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand. She is the daughter of Gopeshwar Prasad and Shashi Devi and the family lives on agriculture. Her UGVS identification number is 118000815.
She belongs to a poor farmer family of village Koti in Tehri Garhwal. Her mother was unable to send her to college for higher studies because of the financial position of the household. She wanted to become a professional and worried about her future. When a relative told her about the UGVS training programme running in her own town, she visited the centre and took admission in the EDP programme.
The training centre is 30 km from her village. A taxi cost 80 rupees a day, which she could not afford, so she walked the distance every day to reach the centre.
Her interest was spotted at the centre and the DIF team referred her to Swami Vivekanand Academy. Since that day she has been working as a computer teacher in her own town, on Rs 12,500.
