Kavita Negi
She had studied only up to class five. After the UGVS mushroom cultivation training she grows and sells mushrooms for her livelihood.
Kavita Negi is 30 years old and lives in Kalsi village of Dehradun district in Uttarakhand. She is the daughter of Sanjeev Singh and Dasni Devi. Her UGVS identification number is 118000615.
She belongs to an illiterate and poor family and had studied only up to class five because of the financial condition at home. When she heard about the UGVS programme from the DIF team in her own village, she decided to join the training in spite of her circumstances, so that she could be technically skilled and earn a livelihood.
Time management was the main challenge for her, since her whole day used to go in household work and in looking after the cattle. She fitted the training schedule around her daily work and completed the course.
Her level of knowledge changed for the better after the programme. She is now skilled in mushroom cultivation through scientific techniques in spite of her limited schooling, and she cultivates and sells mushrooms for her livelihood, with earnings recorded between 3000 and 5000.
